These songs began with Laika and Félicette, two stray animals whose lives became part of the history of space exploration. But to me, they are about something more personal: songs about grief, remembrance, and the tenderness we can still offer long after a life is gone.

I write a lot about romantic love, but I hadn’t put most of those songs into the world yet; there’s a kind of bravery in it. I’m very honest in my more melancholy writing, but it somehow feels more vulnerable to be joyful. Lovebird became an anthology of sorts: a careful collection built up over years.

This album tackles themes of loss: loss of youth and innocence, loss of mental stability, loss of loved ones, loss of the concept of self. Admittedly, it's a sad album, but my goal is to bring you understanding and comfort where it might not have been before

I think it’s a rite of passage for young artists to have a project themed around growing pains. This is mine; it’s an album about navigating complicated relationships, struggling with mental health, and the terrifying, wondrous, messy experience of coming of age.
